The Shield Group, LLC was originally formed as a security-consulting firm in Palo Alto, CA—the heart of Silicon Valley—in 1983 and later obtained a private investigative agency license in the state of California in 1986.
Our Firm
Our firm initially specialized in providing operational security consulting, counter-intelligence, and technical surveillance countermeasure services (often referred to as “bug sweeps”—searching for covert eavesdropping or spying devices).
We served the needs of a range of clientele, including technology firms, the rapidly developing computer hardware and software industry, and defense contractors working on classified government programs.
Over time, we recognized that there was a need to provide this same high-caliber security, investigative, and protective services to private individuals. Occasionally, we have offered our services on a pro-bono basis for those who required help but were unable to afford or obtain such expertise.
We were able to do this because members of our firm did no rely on their association with “The Group” as their primary source of income. Instead, they engaged in this work because of other personal convictions and motivations.
Associates of “The Group” provided their consulting and investigative expertise on a case-by-case basis. Our team largely consisted of moon-lighting members of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and associates from the U.S. intelligence community.
The Meaning Behind Our Logo
The Unicorn, a mythical and heraldic beast, is a legendary creature embodied like a horse, but more slender and with a single horn—usually a spiral—growing out of its forehead.
In ancient times, the horn of the Unicorn was considered a symbol of magical power. The very sighting of a Unicorn was always considered to be a good omen, as its very appearance was a sign of good times to come since the Unicorn only appeared to humans on important missions.
Some say that the fact the Unicorn has not been seen in many centuries suggests that we are living in bad times. Legends tell that the Unicorn will appear once again when the time is right and when goodness reigns once more.
The symbol of the magnificent Unicorn rearing itself in a defensive posture on a Shield of Protection was selected as our logo because these combined symbols embody the very principles that we believe in:
